The new ultrasonic orbit crack detector, at 20 mph, travels up to 60 miles. It uses a three-part probe to crack each rail, one probe is aligned forward at a 30-degree angle, one probe is vertically aligned with the rail surface and the other is pointed at a 67-degree angle.
