A Brief Study on the Strategies to Learn English Well in High Schools

  【Abstract】The effective strategies to learn English in high schools can improve the English learning efficiency and students’ English grades. Thus, it is a must for students in high schools to find out the useful strategies to learn English well. In the present paper, the author would have a brief study on the strategies to learn English well in high schools. It is hoped that it can of some practical significance.

  English learning is extremely important for each student in high schools. With the development of the society, it puts forward to a kind of higher requirement for the English learning in high schools. Thus, how to learn English effectively and well is an important topic to be discussed. In the present paper, the author would have a brief study on the strategies to learn English well in high schools. According to the study of this paper, there are the following strategies:
  In the first place, it is a must for students to develop the interest in learning English. According to the study of this paper, interest is the best teacher and interest is the driving force for learning English. With interest, learning will get twice the result with half the effort. However, the interest is not inherent, but needs to be developed. In order to develop own interest in English, students can participate in different kinds of English activities at the beginning, for example, singing English songs, playing English games, reading humorous English essays, practicing oral English dialogues and so on.
  In the second place, in order to learn English well, students’ status as the main bodies should be emphasized. That is to say, in the English classes in high schools, students should not be instilled the related knowledge mechanically with the traditional ways. Instead, students in the high schools should strengthen the communication with teachers and other students. At the same time, with the approach of the task-based language learning strategy, these students are supposed to study together and try to get in the habit of cooperating with each other. In specific, after putting forward the related tasks by the teachers, students should firstly discuss with others and try to get the main ideas of related tasks. Then, in this process, based on the appropriate hints according to the actual condition given by the teachers, these students in high schools can experience the complete learning through various channels. Besides, during this process, through finishing a series of the related tasks, these students can learn how to use the English language in an effective way. For example, as for the English reading learning in high schools, these students should be encouraged to finfish the related learning tasks with completing the specific reading tasks as the motivation. In this way, through the training in this process, these students can find out their own problems in the process of learning English. On the basis of that, students in high schools should further use the effective ways to solve the problems they have and constantly improve their English reading ability through finishing a series of tasks.   In the third place, opening students’ mouths is also a must for them to learn English well. In specific, students should make full use of the time in the morning and read aloud in order to improve their sense of language. Besides, during the classes, students should bravely answer the questions put forward by the teachers and actively participate in the discussion and debating among students. Moreover, students should overcome their shyness and try to ask their teachers for help if they meet with some difficulties after class. Furthermore, with regard to these English texts in the books, students should read them industriously. In specific, students can read after the tape recorders and try to imitate the pronunciation and intonation in the tapes. More importantly, students should make full use of every chance to practice oral English. For example, communicating with foreign teachers, participating in “English corner”, making dialogues with other students, telling English stories for others, singing English songs, reading English poetries and so on.
  In a word, according to the study of this paper, in order to learn English effectively in high schools, students should takes their life experience and interests as the starting point, which is conducive to the students’ language communication activities in a natural language environment. Moreover, these learners in high schools should creatively use their learning materials and all related knowledge and skills to accomplish the related learning tasks with the appropriate learning and communication methods. In the process, students’ abilities of creativity, imagination, collaboration and creativity can get into full play.
