This article takes “God knows” as a case to explore the postmodernity of Heller’s novels. The article combs the traditional concept of God-centered absolute authority and hierarchical order which is established in the text of the Bible. By querying the novel based on the Bible, the Old Testament and Samuel, and the protagonist’s hierarchical order of the Bible The analysis of reflection reveals the allegory that the novel laughed at the sacredness and the classicity of the Bible. From the perspectives of “going to the classics” and “anti-authority”, the article discusses the significance of deconstruction of classics and the postmodernist character of opposing all authority, opposing all the centralities, essences and truths, The classic refutation is in fact a denial of the interpretation of the traditional classics and a ridicule and criticism of the norm, standard, order and power behind the establishment of classics. At the same time, it also conveys the anxiety of the post-modern people after rebellious traditions and subversion of order.
