川植3号是四川省农科院植保所1979年用“桂朝2号”作母本,“I R2061—404—2—4—5”作父本杂交,历年经浦江病圃早代株系鉴定选择,于1984年稳定。稻瘟病大流行的1985年,全省区域性试验表明,本品种既保留了桂朝2号高产性能,又结合进了“IR2061—461—2—4—5”的抗病性和米质好等优良性状,属中籼中熟品种。全省两年区域性试验平均亩产498公斤,最高产量574.9公斤,与对照种沪科3号相当。对稻瘟病抗性强,病区种植增产潜力大,在省区试的稻瘟病区川西片较对照种增产12.4%。川植3号叶色较浅,叶姿挺直、窄立、株型松散适度,具有抗病虫特征。在浅山、丘陵区种植对稻瘟病流行有抑制作用。1959年通过四川省品种审定委员会审定。
