Accurately estimating the loss of extrarenal water is beneficial for liquid therapy in very low birth weight (VLBW) infants and reduces the risk of fluid imbalance. The daily water requirement of a VLBW is the sum of water excretion, insignificant water loss, loss of stool, and growth. The commonly used method for estimating water loss in faeces from VLBW is based on the value determined by term infants. The authors determined the most daily loss of water in excrement of immature infants when fed completely enterally. This information helps to accurately estimate daily VLBW liquid requirements. The author selected 11 cases of baby boy within 2 weeks after birth, birth weight 1.314 ± 117g, gestational age 30.9 ± 1.6 weeks. Choosing a baby boy is convenient for collecting stool specimens without being contaminated with urine. It is given every two days
