In the recent 5 years, the city government stepped up efforts to renovate the old districts. Many of the classical residential buildings in the downtown area, such as alley Shikumen buildings, were demolished and replaced by high-rise buildings. Although luxurious appearance of modern architecture, but I always feel the lack of a kind of warmth at home. In the past, people always thought that the Bund was a symbol of Shanghai’s construction. In fact, representatives of Shanghai’s residential areas should be alley Shikumen. As early as the opening of Shanghai, it produced the first batch of Shikumen, to the last century, the thirties and the forties of alley Shiquang reached its peak. It is characterized by the absorption of some of the characteristics of Western architecture, well-made doorposts, corridors, and decorated with relief (brick), the beautiful arch between the room and room. These alleyways Shikumen was a high-class apartment for the middle class and social elite. It was romantic, warm, stylish and tasteful. It was a true portrayal of the old Shanghai in the east of Paris.
