The 42-meter-high monument, carved from copper and granite, was built in 1935 as an important symbol of Latvia’s sovereignty, freedom and independence. It is also an important venue for public rallies and official rituals in Riga. The monuments were designed by Karlis Zale and Tevzemel un Brivibai on November 18, 1935.
