Experiments confirmed that 39% of sera from aborting women contained anti-trophic antibodies, compared to only 6% of normal early pregnancies. In undifferentiated and differentiated trophoblastic cells, high titer of antisera can be used to identify multiple antigens. In this study, indirect immunofluorescence was used to prepare an antiserum against human nourishing tissue and to study antigen-antibody responses in villi and placenta.
