中国早期佛雕艺术主要受到印度佛雕艺术的影响,因此,中国审美文化对印度佛雕艺术的改造就包括两个方面,一是民族特性的改造;二是降低宗教艺术本身的神性,使其向生活世界靠拢,符合中国祖先崇拜宗教仪轨的非宗教特质,沿着世俗性和艺术性的内在趋向摆脱印度佛雕艺术的模式。中国早期佛雕艺术发展虽然充满矛盾,但是它是通向成熟的佛雕艺术的途径。
The art of Chinese early buddha carving is mainly influenced by the art of Indian Buddha sculptures. Therefore, the transformation of Indian buddha sculptures by Chinese aesthetic culture includes two aspects. One is the transformation of national characteristics. The other is to reduce the divinity of religious art itself. It moves closer to the world of life and is in line with the non-religious trait of Chinese ancestors worshiping the religious rituals. It follows the secular and artistic internal tendency to get rid of the mode of Indian Buddhist carving art. Although the development of early Chinese Buddhist carving art is full of contradictions, it is a gateway to the mature art of Buddha carving.
