Valerie Johnson: Welcome to the new McDonald’s.
Customer: It’s nice. It’s a lot cleaner. I think a lot more room.
And it’s a first impression shared by many over a 30-year-old McDonald’s that was remodeled to 1)feature environmentally 2)progressive materials and operating systems.
Valerie: We wanted to make it more of a contemporary look and feel, so we started to look at the options and learn more about the green technology.
That led Valerie Johnson and her mother and business partner, Val Netlan, to a Michigan company that specializes in 3)sustainable design.
Wrapping around the modern design concept was the goal of 4)implementing as many green materials and systems throughout the building as possible. No more 5)cumbersome booths here, no 6)Hamburglars or Grimaces on the wall, either. Customers will see a dining room composed of renewable products such as bamboo and recycled glass 7)complemented by environmentally friendly building materials and booths, seating and tiles all 8)illuminated with low-9)voltage LED lighting.
Valerie: You know, it’s progressive, it’s forward-thinking, it’s…it’s contemporary, it has elements of European elements brought into it, very clean and 10)streamlined elements instead of, you know, crown moldings and more traditional elements of interiors in the past.
Valerie adds that it’s not uncommon for some of those customers to stop and thank her for creating such an inviting 11)atmosphere. And customers should also be happy to know that the cost-savings of the more efficient operating systems in the building, over time will help keep prices low, which could mean a long life for things like the 12)dollar menu.
