After reviewing the current main vessel seals, with large and small bolt preloads, the advantages and disadvantages of different seals for pipes and valves are presented. In some specific examples, the test was compared with the sealing force calculated according to DIN 2505 and AD-B7. When the seal circle diameter is between 40 mm and 150 mm, the calculated bolt force according to D1N2505 matches the measurement. The bolt force necessary for small diameter cases is below the calculated value. In addition, the formula for determining the optimum size of the metal gasket seal is obtained, which, in contrast to the DIN 2505, yields the result of a single calculation. Rubber O-ring seals are also suitable for high pressures, taking into account the design specifications. It is a cheap and easy to replace sealing element.
