Hypoglycemia in the newborn is a potentially serious problem for newborns as brain cells primarily make use of glucose as a source of energy and hypoglycemia may pose a potential threat to brain development such as early diagnosis and timely treatment to prevent the onset of permanent central nervous system sequelae .
