The yen has been falling sharply since the beginning of October 2012 and has now depreciated by 20%. During the months between October 5, 2012 and February 18, 2013, the dollar’s closing price against the yen has risen from 78.65 to 93.6, its highest level since the first quarter of 2009. The rapid fall of the yen in the short term has drawn wide attention from the international community.
