“并行作战”是任伊拉克战争期间曝光频率较高的新名词之一,指协调运用各种作战力量同时打击作战空间内所有目标的作战方式。与海湾战争、科索沃战争期间不同的是,美军在伊拉克开战的第二天就投入了大量地面部队,没有出现预料中的大规模、长时间先期空袭,而是陆、海、空、天、电几种作战力量同时从各个方向并行发起攻击。这种作战方式往往不给对手喘息的机会,在短时间内就能对其予以毁灭性打击,达到数倍于传统顺序作战的作战效果。与传统顺序作战方式相比,“并行作战”有几个明显的特点:
