草地退化原因有自然因素和人为因素造成的,气候变化是引起草地退化的重要自然原因,其中降水量的变化尤其重要;人为因素是超强度放牧和滥垦、滥采和滥挖是草地退化的外在原因,由于过牧草原植被盖度和高度降低,草地植被的产量和质量下降,不能为畜牧业提供优良牧草,为了禁止草地退化,为畜牧业提供品质优良的饲草,草地补播和围栏是恢复和提高草原植被最为有效的方法.
