Although BCG vaccination is an unsafe method of protection against tuberculosis, thousands of infants and young children are still being vaccinated each year. Serious complications such as systemic bacterial dissemination are rare, but local complications are common. Intradermal vaccination of BCG produces a typical primary syndrome consisting of skin nodules at the injection site and regional lymph nodes. The reaction of a few individuals to bacteria is fierce and causes ulcers, lymphadenitis or suppurative lymphadenitis. These complications are more likely to occur if the vaccine is injected subcutaneously or if the subject’s tuberculin test is positive. Without treatment, lesions can be maintained
