The new combination of two-line France-Asia interspecific hybrid rice “65396” cultivated by Jiangsu Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences achieved a very high yield of 800 kg per mu after two years of small area trial planting. Experts believe that on the basis of strengthening cultivation technology research and expanding pilot planting demonstration, our country is expected to take the lead in realizing the goal of “super rice” put forward by the international rice scientific community. In 1980, Japan first proposed and implemented the project of super-high-yield rice breeding in the world. Due to various obstacles, it has still not achieved its goal. In the early 1990’s, the International Rice Research Institute based in the Philippines started the project of super-high-yielding rice plant breeding. It plans to cultivate a super-rice with the potential of 800 kg per mu by 2005 with the specific index of 100 kg per hectare during the growing season of rice .
