About two-thirds of the world’s population live on the mainland coast. However, this proportion is still rising due to population growth and relocation to the Mainland. By 2025, about three-quarters of humanity, or more than 6.3 billion people, will be living on the coast of the mainland. Given the fact that large-scale population growth mainly occurs in developing countries (southern countries), the pressure on the environment in the coastal areas of these regions is likely to increase. Given that a large proportion of the population in developing countries provides them directly with the sustained productivity of coastal ecosystems. The environmental degradation of these ecosystems will certainly affect their living conditions. In addition, the poorest people in those communities lacking other sources of livelihood will be harmed by the consequences of environmental degradation.
