汽车、拖拉机变速器用圆柱齿轮的现有加工工艺采用:模锻→扩孔→拉孔→以内孔定位粗车齿坯外圆、端面→以内孔定位精车外圆和基准端面→滚(插)齿→齿端面倒角→剃齿→渗碳淬火→以齿轮节圆和齿圈基准端面定位修磨基准孔→以内孔定位进行珩齿(也有的厂不珩齿)。上述的齿坯加工所用的拉孔工艺,是以内孔定位精车齿坯基准端面,其跳动精度难以达到标准规定的要求。
