The lack of erythrocyte G-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6 PD) is a hereditary erythrocytic enzyme that is the most common cause of hereditary hemolytic anemia in newborns. In the past, methemoglobin reduction tests were commonly used in the general laboratory to indirectly detect G-6PD activity. In some cases, false-negative and false-positive results may occur. In order to understand the true incidence of G-6PD deficiency in neonates and the frequency distribution of G-6PD, we measured G-6PD activity using Shimadzu UV-730 microfluidic UV spectrophotometer
