Hedda Gabler is a controversial play in Ibsen’s work. The script has been published and staged for over a hundred years now, and the debate over how Haida is a woman and why she committed suicide has never ceased. From the perspective of modern feminism to reread the play and Ibsen’s notes, Haida’s image gives a new revelation. Haida is a woman full of poetic temperament, the pursuit of the poetic meaning of life is her spiritual light. Haida’s death is not an arrangement of fate, nor is it due to her own shortcomings, but her pursuit of poetic life impels her to choose the way of death to realize the freedom of human nature.
