文章认为，体制革命离不开理论创新。建立社会主义市场经济体制，既是一场深刻的体制革命，也是一次重要的理论创新。但是，正象我国的经济体制改革需要深化一样，思想对理论也亟待进一步突破和创新。对此，文章就三个重大的理论与实际问题提出了自己的见解：（１）生产力应是检验我国改革的唯一标准；（２）我国应建立平等竞争的多元化、混合型所有制结构；（３）应确立按资分配与按劳动力价值分配相统一的复合分配体系。文章还指出：在我国经济体制改革的进程中，建立社会主义市场体制是第一个重大的飞跃；建立平等竞争的多元化、混合型所有制结构是第二个重大的飞跃。
The article holds that the system revolution can not be separated from theoretical innovation. Establishing a socialist market economic system is not only a profound institutional revolution but also an important theoretical innovation. However, just as China’s economic system reform needs to be deepened, ideological and theoretical issues need to be further broken through and innovated. In this regard, the article puts forward its own views on three major theoretical and practical issues: (1) Productivity should be the sole criterion for testing China’s reform; (2) China should establish a pluralistic and mixed ownership structure of equal competition; 3) A compound distribution system based on the distribution of capital and the distribution of labor force value should be established. The article also points out: In the process of economic reform in our country, building a socialist market system is the first major leap forward. Building a diversified and mixed ownership structure of equal competition is the second major leap forward.
