The authors observed the effects of human interleukin 6 (IL-6) gene transfer on the antitumor immune function of FBL-3 erythroleukemia cells that highly secrete IL-6. As a result, it was found that erythroleukemia cells highly secreting IL-6, after being inoculated into mice, can significantly increase cytotoxic T lymphocyte and NK activity in the spleen of mice and LAK activity induced by IL-2, and are induced by mouse spleen cells. IL-2, tumor necrosis factor, and granulocyte-macrophage lineage colony-stimulating factor levels also increased, and the killing activity of peritoneal macrophages was significantly enhanced. The results showed that FBL-3 erythroleukemia cells highly secreting IL-6 could significantly enhance the body’s anti-tumor immunity after inoculation. The results provide experimental evidence for the biological treatment of leukemia and the application of novel tumor vaccines for IL-6 gene transfer.
