In the sun, the invisible side is enough to scorch you. The sun’s rotation is very slow. It takes about one month to complete one rotation. This means that each activity on the other side of the sun is hidden for up to two weeks. If the other side is forming a huge magnetic storm, then when the sun finally turns toward the earth, the magnetic storm will carry a lot of radiation to attack the earth. This happened in 2003. At that time, this unexpected shock wave caused a momentary interruption of satellite communications and disrupted the aircraft navigation system. Scientists now use the satellites of the American Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Sun and Heliosphere Observatory (SOHO) to see the sun directly and to make predictions as early as possible before the onset of a magnetic storm.
