Twelve blind children aged 18 to 24 months were randomly divided into two groups and were vaccinated with DT-pertussis acellular bacterin or DT-pertussis whole body bacterin, respectively, for boosting. These infants received 3 DTPs at 2, 4 and 6 months of age respectively. The aim of this study was to compare side effects and serological responses after vaccination with both vaccines. The experimental results show that no one of the two immunized children developed severe systemic and local reactions. The incidence of fever in the acellular pertussis vaccinated group was lower than that in the whole bacillus vaccine group (P = 0.00008). The peak incidence of fever was 6 hours after immunization.
