1991年3月云南思茅地区茶叶工作者何仕华在澜沧拉祜族自治县富东乡邦崴村新寨家脚西北坡园地(海拔1900米)里发现一株古茶树——邦崴古茶树。树高11.8米,树幅8.2×9.0米,根颈处干径1.14米,最低分枝高70厘米,一级分枝3个,二级分枝13个。1992年10月,由云南省茶叶学会等单位组织全国著名茶叶专家作了现场考察论证。专家们一致认为:邦崴古茶树既有野生大茶树的花果种子形态特点,又具有栽培茶树芽叶、枝梢的特点,是野生型与栽培型间的过渡类型,反映了茶树发源与早期驯化利用同源这一规律。经推断估算树龄在千年左右,大约为南诏时期。邦崴古茶树是迄今发现的唯一古老的过渡大型茶树,它为我国云南
