著名地质学家高振西教授（１９０７－１９９１年）１９３１年毕业于北京大学地质学系，同年留校任教，至１９３７年。该本记叙了高振西先生在北京大学求学、执教的情形及对该系建设的贡献。１９３４年发表的《中国北方震旦纪地层的初步研究》一文是高先生早年的成名之作，是有国际影响的基础研究性质的重要著作。
The famous geologist Professor Gao Zhenxi (1907-1991) graduated from Peking University Department of Geology in 1931, the same year to stay in school until 1937. This book narrates Mr. Gao Zhenxi’s study and coaching at Peking University and its contribution to the department’s construction. An article entitled “A Preliminary Study of the Sinian Strata in Northern China” published in 1934 is a famous piece written by Mr. Gao in his early years and is an important work of a fundamental research character with international influence.
