Vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-3 (VEGFR-3) is the most important regulator of lymphangiogenesis and development. Its biological effects are mediated through its binding to ligand VEGF-C. VEGFR-3 in malignant tumors not only can promote lymphangiogenesis, but also is closely related to lymphatic metastasis. This review summarizes the recent advances in the molecular and molecular structures of VEGFR-3, its expression in normal and pathological tissues, the relationship between biological functions and signaling pathways of ligands, and lymphatic metastasis.
