Mo Bai’s “Transmutation Trilogy” is a narrative about the spiritual transformation and spiritual reconstruction of the urban-based intellectuals in the process of urbanization. The theme of the novel focuses on two aspects. One is the attitude of “country folk” entering the urban process: the desolation of desire is accompanied by moral confession; the other is their journey back into the country: the frustration in the city prompts them to seek the mother Asylum, in the process the image of the village was reconstructed. The salient features of the textual form of the novel are that the frequent changes in the narrative time and the tense cause the sense of disintegration and leap in the story narration and the separation effect caused by the super narrative structure, all of which are related to the author’s understanding of life and existence.
