Calling is the most influential family-run novels by contemporary Australian writer Colin McCullough since The Thorn Birds. The work portrays the life span of two generations of a family in New South Wales, Australia, in the 19th century. It also depicts many vivid, memorable images of women. Their life experiences truly show us the growth course of women, and the heroine Elizabeth is a typical representative. Taking Elizabeth as an example, this article analyzes the growth course of women from the aspects of freedom from family, pursuit of emotion and liberation of body, and points out that it is the ultimate goal of women to achieve harmony between men and women.
