The “Kizil mode” grottoes are typical of the Kizil center column caves in Xinjiang. They were created by the ancient Qizi people on the basis of absorbing the foreign Buddhist art and daring to innovate. They occupy an important position in the site of Buddhist caves in our country. Because of the lack of documentation about the age at which the caves were cut, it is very difficult to stage them in stages. However, the staging of the central pillar has long been an issue of great concern. Chinese and foreign scholars have already published many staged dissertations of the Qizi Caves, including the central pillar caves, with different conclusions. Through the study of the central pillar grottoes of Kizil Grottoes, this paper starts with the change of the form, the evolution of painting content, the style of painting and the status of Kizil Grottoes in the art of Buddhist grottoes.
