战争和科技总是相互推动着对方的发展。科技使战争变得更加有效地进行军事破坏,同时赢得战争的必要驱使科技从雷达、原子能到隐身技术不断发展。大众传播得益于与战争的共生关系。在美国,战争推动新闻媒体不断追求新的传播技术和设备,旨在获得竞争优势。成为第一个报道战争或者第一个用新方法报道战争的媒体,就能够使独立的美国媒体在竞争市场中赢得大量的受众份额和巨大的商业利益。本文试图了解新闻媒体在战争年代中推动电报、广播、电视机和在线交流的普及与发展。
War and science and technology always promote each other’s development. Technology has made war more effective in military destruction and the need to win the war has driven the continuous development of science and technology from radar and atomic energy to stealth technology. Mass communication benefited from the symbiotic relationship with the war. In the United States, the war pushed the news media to constantly pursue new communication technologies and devices aimed at gaining a competitive advantage. Being the first to report on the war or the first to cover the war in new ways will enable independent American media to win a large share of the audience and a huge commercial interest in the competitive marketplace. This article attempts to understand how the news media promoted the popularization and development of telegraph, radio, television and online communication during the war years.
