“Human Contamination” is the last of the “American Trilogy” that Philippe Rose wrote at the end of the 20th century. Through the protagonist Silke, the author portrays a contemporary Oedipus the king who is trying to escape ethnic destiny. With the “human contamination” as the object, it collects the political and cultural background of specific power discourse and public morals, probes into the paradox of individual existence from two dimensions: the identity of the subject and the orientation of morality, and displays the individual’s pursuit of self in the contemporary society where power discourse is ubiquitous , Revealing the repression and persecution of natural human nature by public moral discourse and exploring the individual’s response and resistance to the discourse of power in pursuit of freedom.
