Historically, there were mostly aerobic and facultative bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Enterobacteriaceae, and Pseudomonas, and few were reported for anaerobes. The authors analyzed bacterial stump wound infection (SWI) in 52 patients at the Margland Bethesda Naval Hospital. Bacterial culture was performed in 44 patients with bacterial growth. The mean age of patients was 52 years. There were 41 males and 3 females, averaging after amputation SWI occurred 93 days (4 days to 3 years). Amputation causes peripheral vascular disease in 23 cases, 11 cases of trauma, 7 cases of diabetes and 3 cases of malignant tumors. Amputation of the lower limb in 36 cases and upper limb in 8 cases. 17 samples before the use of antibiotics. Directly from the wound with a syringe
