Positive electron emission tomography (PEF) has been available for more than ten years. This technology can be safely used to determine the physiology and biochemistry of the human brain and other organs. PET uses the occult radiation that occurs after the body absorbs positrons to truly show the spatial distribution of the radionuclide at the selected tissue level. This method is as effective as quantitative tissue autoradiography, but PET also has the advantage of being non-invasive, so it can be used in the study of living animals, including humans. The complexity of the PET method is that the commonly used radionuclide half-life is too short, ~15 O is about 2 minutes, and ~13 N is 13
