The “Cultural Revolution” years and unpredictable political struggles often revolve around specific events. The song “Gardener” reflects the primary school teachers who guide students to conscientiously study the cultural knowledge and grow up healthily. The works of Xiang opera with positive contents have been stepped up to the political level by Jiang Qing and Zhang Chunqiao who are involved in the literary and art circles. No one can expect that the phrase “how no culture can take the burden of the revolution” actually stimulated these politicians who regarded the visual culture as their enemy. On the occasion of desperation, Comrades of Hunan Provincial Party Committee tried to let Mao Zedong, who lived in Changsha, witness the song “Gardener”, which triggered a tit-for-tat political struggle.
