五四时期,林纾、章士钊与学衡派从不同方面向新文学挑战,因而在现代文学史叙述中多以反对派的角色受到否定性的评价。实际上,历史是复杂的,林纾对传统失传的担忧,章士钊的民族主体性观念和新与旧、雅与俗的辩正观念,学衡派尊重传统、捍卫汉字、循序渐进的渐进改革观与内涵丰富的文学观,对于新文学来说具有程度不同的积极意义,对此应予以实事求是的评价。
During the May 4th Movement, Lin Shu, Zhang Shizhao and Xuehengpai challenged the New Literature from different aspects. Therefore, the role of the opposition in the narration of modern literature was mostly negatively evaluated. In fact, history is complicated. Lin Shu’s concerns about the traditional loss of transmission, Zhang Shizhao’s concept of national subjectivity and the concepts of newness, oldness, elegance and vulgarity, Xueheng’s respect for tradition, defense of Chinese characters, and the gradual and progressive concept of gradual reform The rich connotation of literature has positive significance to different degrees to the new literature, and should be evaluated objectively.
