自拳击运动诞生那天起,死亡就像幽灵一样威胁着这项被人称为“勇敢者的运动”的运动。据不完全统计,自1945年以来,职业拳坛发生的死亡人数高达350多人。特别是1995年以来,拳台伤亡事件激增,继美国著名的世界冠军麦克莱伦血溅伦敦温布利体育场后,又发生了哥伦比亚拳击手加西亚,印尼拳手芒拉纳和苏格兰拳手默里相继殒命拳台的悲剧。而日本拳击手冈部信在拳台被击昏至今仍生死未卜……如此之多的拳坛伤亡事件再次引发了是否应禁止拳击的大争论。
