山西地震带具有强度大、频度高、地震在断陷盆地内集中的特点、是现代构造运动强烈的地区之一。山西隆起区的中部,由一系列斜列断陷盆地组成,主要分布方向是北东和北北东向。盆地之间存有很大的不均匀性。几个主要的断陷盆之间,均由横向隆起带所隔开,隆起带主要分布方向为近东西向,是最新活动的隆起构造,廿多年地壳垂直形变资料表明,这些隆起带现代构造活动强烈,形变速率大,两侧相对变化显著。同时、钻探和物探资料表明,在断陷盆地内部还存在着局部隆起带和凹陷带。
