湘潭大学是全国高校中较早开展毛泽东思想研究的高等学校,1980年设立毛泽东思想研究室,1992年经当时的湖南省教委批准升格为毛泽东思想研究所,2002年,与韶山管理局合作共同建设,改名为毛泽东思想研究中心,2004年被确定为湖南省普通高校哲学社会科学重点研究基地,同年底被遴选为教育部普通高校人文社会科学重点研究基地。经过三十多年的建设和发展,湘潭大学毛泽东思想研究中心成为 Xiangtan University is one of the earliest colleges and universities in the country to carry out the study of Mao Zedong Thought.
