Based on the Chinese Family Tracker Survey Data (CFPS) in 2012 and 2014 and the internationally accepted “Big Five Personality” model, this paper empirically analyzes the impact of non-cognitive abilities on wage income of Chinese workers. The results show that non-cognitive ability plays a significant role in promoting wage income of Chinese workers, which is as important as the core variable of traditional human capital concerns - the number of years of education. Further research found that there is a significant gender difference in the impact of non-cognitive ability on wage income. Among them, emotional stability and pleasantness are more important to female workers, whereas due diligence has a greater impact on male workers. Therefore, the article thinks that in the future, schools will explore the mode of education and the government should pay attention to the promotion of non-cognitive ability when carrying out skills training instead of emphasizing the cognitive ability.
