纽约医院克奈尔医学研究中心现已发现一种抑制动脉粥样硬化的化合物。其组成为26—羟化胆固醇,正常由肝脏经胆固醇合成。在血中含量甚微。有很强地抑制胆固醇合成的作用。医学教授 Norman B·Javitt 博士分离出了这种化合物,并发现其正常血浆水平(0.1~0.7μm)便可抑制中国仓鼠(hamster)卵巢细胞培养基中胆固醇的合成。这种化合物抑制胆固醇合成中的主要限速甲基羟戊二酰辅酶 A 还原酶(HMG—CoA 还原酶)的活性。
New York Hospital Kenneth Medical Research Center has now found a compound that inhibits atherosclerosis. Its composition is 26-hydroxylated cholesterol, which is normally synthesized by the liver via cholesterol. In the blood content is minimal. Has a strong inhibitory effect on cholesterol synthesis. Dr. Norman B. Javitt, a professor of medicine, has isolated this compound and found that its normal plasma level (0.1-0.7 μm) inhibits the cholesterol synthesis in Chinese hamster ovarian cell culture. This compound inhibits the activity of the main rate-limiting methylhydroxygallonyl-CoA reductase (HMG-CoA reductase) in cholesterol synthesis.
