Hungary was still a single agricultural country before World War II. It was in the fifties that the agricultural population still accounted for about half of the total population. However, the agricultural population has now dropped to 14-15%. Coupled with the workers in the food processing industry, it accounts for only about 18-19%. Hungary’s food industry accounts for about 26-27% of its social output and 20-21% of its net output. In three decades Hungary’s agricultural output doubled, and the food processing industry almost tripled in output. Exports of agricultural products and food processing industrial products account for 22-24% of the total value of Hungary’s exports.
