In recent years, research on scale control in oilfields has been focused on the understanding of the relationship between non-uniform nucleation of scale materials and the growth of scale material on the surface of metal pipe fittings because it is thought that the scale materials adhere more aggressively than even large area deposits . In an earlier study, the researchers found that the formation of metal surface fouling films was influenced by the presence of certain cations, scale inhibitor concentrations, and electrode potentials. The anti-fouling film can effectively prevent the formation of scale from the supersaturated solution.
