A new Nosema sp. Was isolated from the Spodoptera litura in Guangzhou. The microsporidian is easily inoculated into the body of the bollworm and possesses high virulence to the two lepidopteran insects mentioned above and causes overall infestation. The cross-infection test found that this microsporidian also inoculated another eight Lepidoptera test hosts but did not infect silkworms, gypsy moths, poplar moths and diamondback moth. Typical fresh spores are ovoid, 4.34 ± 0.27 × 1.99 ± 0.14 μm. The average length of the wire was 94.2 ± 11.97μm. Ultrastructural studies have found that the polar filaments usually wrap around 12-13 laps in a single layer, with an angle of 78-82 ° to the long axis of the spore. The study found that this species is different from all previously reported lepidopteran insects infected Nosema is a microsporidian worm, so as a new species M.liturae.
