A recent study in the United States shows that older people’s adherence to a “brain-healthy” diet can delay cognitive decline by 7.5 years. In a recent 5-year survey, 960 elderly people with an average age of 81.4 years and without Alzheimer’s disease were assessed for cognitive status and their daily diet recorded and analyzed. The results showed that older adults who strictly adhered to “MIND Diet” (full name “Mediterranean intervention to delay degeneration of neurons”) had a younger brain function of 7.5 years younger than those who did not adhere to the diet. “MIND Diet” was developed by Martha Morris, a nutrition epidemiologist at the Rush University Medical Center.
