As a palace for the emperor of the Qing Dynasty, the Summer Resort was planned and constructed according to the Qing Emperor’s intentions. Its designer is Lei Jinyu, a Qing Dynasty court architect. He was originally from Jianchang (now Yongxiu County) in Jiangxi province. He was influenced by his father who was a master of palace architecture.
