After the full-scale war of resistance broke out in July 1937, the Red Army of the Chinese Workers and Peasants was adapted into the Eighth Route Army of the Chinese National Revolutionary Army. It went from the north to the east through the Yellow River in northern Shaanxi and went to the anti-Japanese front in Shanxi Province. It opened up the anti-Japanese base areas behind the enemy lines in northeast Shanxi, northwest Shanxi and southeastern Shanxi. In the following year, the Eighth Route Army took Shanxi as the starting point and started to advance and expand toward Hebei and Shandong. When Shanxi Province had 13 million people, more than 600,000 people took part in the anti-Japanese armed forces and created a new anti-Japanese new situation in North China behind enemy lines.
