The development of the teeth is caused by the continuous mutual induction between the epithelium of the tooth epithelium and the neuron-derived mesenchyme. The continuous and mutual induction between the epithelium and the mesenchyme causes the epithelial cells to differentiate into enamel cells that have the function of secreting enamel, whereas the mesenchymal cells differentiate into odontoblasts that have the function of secreting dentin. The normal differentiation of ameloblasts is essential for the formation of normal enamel. The purpose of this article is to summarize the roles of cell signaling molecules, cell adhesion molecules, enamel-specific genes and transcription factors in the process of ameliorating ameloblasts.
