Although the phenomenon of thermoluminescence was discovered as early as the 17th century, it has not been widely applied and developed due to the fact that it has not been explained well in theory. In the late 1960s, a model of electron-hole centers and photo-sensitive centers in crystalline phosphors were established by using electron paramagnetic resonance.
